Application

  • Use to elevate one-sided (asymmetric) deep margins on both anterior and posterior teeth.
  • First clean the deep margin and perform gingivectomy if needed.
  • Isolate the deep margin with rubber dam.
  • Place in a standard Tofflemire retainer.
  • Adjust the position of the matrix to align with the location of the deep margin.
  • Rely on the band’s natural curvature for apical seal; place teflon as a wedge only if needed.
  • Adjust the emergence profile by moving the matrix retainer head closer to or further from the deep margin as required.

Example Use Cases

  • Distal of second molars
  • Proximal root concavities
  • Palatal crown-root fractures
  • Buccal crown-root fractures
  • Cases without an adjacent tooth
  • Restoring invasive cervical lesions
  • Asymmetric deep lesions (e.g. mesial deeper than distal)
  • Gergis Matrix Size #1 is recommended instead for deep margin elevation in cases that are not one-sided (asymmetric), such as decoronated teeth.

Special Features

a. Extended Band Length

  • Allows for use not only in proximal areas but also in buccal and lingual locations, and any area in between, instead of requiring two separate matrix designs.

b. Significantly Increased Band Curvature and Divergence

  • Provides an apical seal without the need for wedges.
  • Enhances the emergence profile, preventing black triangle formation.

c. Shorter Band Height

  • Reduces the risk of overbuilding the elevation.
  • Allows divergence without interference from adjacent tooth contacts, enhancing the emergence profile and preventing black triangles.
